#SocialCommerce: Mark Stouse on the Future of Corporate Communications

Mark Stouse, VP of Global Connect at BMC Software, brought his Texas accent and straight-talk back to the W2O Social Commerce Summit. He kicked off his presentation with a well-known Texas phrase: “What starts here changes the world” (University of Texas motto). I can’t think of a better sentiment for a conference of marketing and communications professionals sharing their experiences and visions of the future.

Stouse left us with a number of lasting sentiments, but perhaps most memorable (and personal) were his insights into the changing roles of marketing professionals. He said we’re shifting from philosophies of …

  • No (gatekeepers) to Yes (facilitators)
  • Owner (lord and master) to Steward (servant leader)
  • Self-interest (what I need) to Other-interest (putting your audiences/customers/employees before yourself)
